What a truly wonderful day

Today as you will all know it was Royal wedding day. Like a lot of people I was up early to watch as the events unfolded.
I think that in Britain we do this type of thing rather well, and yes it does make you proud to be British.
I really liked the dresses and thought everyone in the wedding party looked wonderful.

They seem like a super young couple and I wish them much happiness.
Hope you all enjoyed it as much as me.

Royal Wedding day nearly here!

Well the day is nearly here! For millions of people all over the world the Royal wedding is an event not to be missed.

Prince William and Kate will be married this friday, and I have my reserved seating on my sofa right at the front! I was invited I hope you understand but I had to decline due to the fact my hat was not ready in time !!
I am a Londoner born and so is all my family but I will not be making the journey up to town on friday. I am sure the crowds will be great and it will be fun, but years of living in the countryside have made me rather crowd unfriendly.

Part of me wishes I were going as the colour and pomp that London does so well is not to be missed.
As a child my mother and I would always spend summer holidays in London. We would go to every place and spends hours walking around, it was always the highlight of my year. The venue for the wedding is Westminster and it is a truly beautiful building that if your are lucky to get to London, you really should see.

I know I am sad but I can't wait to see Kate's dress as thats the part that I love, as I am sure most women do. I hope they will be really happy as they seem like a sweet couple who fingers crossed can cope with the stress of public life. I also hope the day goes off without problems or trouble for them and all the millions who will bother to go into London to watch.
So enjoy world, I will be sat on my sofa from  8.30 London time with my tea (oh so British) and my tissue to mop up my tears lol
Oh and my daughters wedding in september may not be on such a grand scale but I will ask the Queen for my hat back and I will be set for the day!

Magpie monday-jollyjillys

The charity shop was not open today as it was Easter Monday, so my find was from a couple of weeks ago.
Its a jacket with a matching dress which I paid  £5.00 for. I did buy it just for the jacket as my daughter sings and I thought it would look good with black trousers. However, I have another use for it! My daughter in law is 30 in a couple of weeks and she is having an 80's party! So I plan to put big shoulder pads in and big earrings and away I shall go! Promise I will post pictures at the party.

My backyard

Its such a beautiful day in the south of the Uk today. It make you realise how lucky you are to live in a lovely area.
I am a Londoner by birth, and was brought up in a busy big town. My mother always wanted to live in the countryside but it was never really to be.
Then around 15 yrs ago we moved house to a small riverside town and I got the countryside dream mum always wanted.

Burnham is a small town but famous for its sailing. Its is surrounded by countryside of mostly crops but some animals as well. You can walk for miles near my home and if you are into wild life you have come to the right place. I love the countryside but I also love the river and the views from the quay side. This picture is from our Burnham on crouch web site, sadly I did not take it but its fantastic anyway
I would love to live more rural but sadly as i get older its not practical. I plan to get out in the next few weeks to take more pictures so you can see how fantastic my backyard yard.
The church is just across from my house and my daughter Natalie is getting married there this year, we can't wait to share a wonderful day with friends and family.
Hope you enjoyed my little tour of my town and I promise more pictures to come!

flashback friday -family

My flashback Friday for Cafe Bebe is a fairly close flashback. My computer decided to pack up over the weekend, so I had to use my very old lap top.Photo's were limited but then I came across this one of my nephew Sam and my niece Emma, last year at my son Matthews wedding. We don't get together very often and my nephew Sam is moving overseas soon so it will get even less. I was only young when their mother had them and they were the light of my life. I spent every hour I could with them and must have drove their poor mum mad!
Even though they are grown up I still love them dearly and for me they will always been my cute little  niece and nephew.

Mrs Listers Q & A

Thanks to the super nice Emvi I am taking part in my first tag. So fingers crossed I do it right lol
This is great idea a meme from the Guardian orginally. So here goes!

Which living person do you most admire, and why?

I have to say it was my mum. She was one tough cookie and had some amazing adventures. I am not were near as strong as she was but then again I dont have her temper lol.

When were you happiest?

Not sure proberly when I found out I was expecting my son Matthew. We had tried for 2yrs for a baby with no luck. I thought I would never have children so to find out I had a baby on the way was a dream come true. My children are the light of my life. I did not wait so long for Natalie but she was just as welcome .

What was your most embarrassing moment?

Well like many people i think there could be a few. One that come to mind is me and hubbie went to the movies during the day. It was a cold sunny day and he had on a dark overcoat. When we got in the movie had started and coming from sun you could hardly see a thing. He found an empty row of seats but went on down toward the middle. I followed found him, sat down and ran my hand up and down his leg !!!
The next thing was a deep voice (not my hubbie) said " sorry love he's gone down there" I nearly died.
I had touched a totally strange man! My husband thought it was soooooo funny!

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?

I have never really had money to buy very expensive items but I guess my cricut machine for my craft which was £500

What is your most treasured possession?

Family photo's both my parents are dead so I have most of the photo's they left behind. I love history so they are very special. I also have my mothers headscarf which she wore all the time.

Where would you like to live?

I always wanted to live in the countryside which I now do but I would like to live even more rural away from noise and cars. Or by the seaside so you could hear the waves crashing and see the seasons change

What’s your favourite smell?

I dont really have a sense of smell but I used to love flowers and fresh baked bread.

Who would play you in the film of your life

Now thats hard as Im so beautiful and slim and young !!!!!!!!! Not sure maybe Sandra Bullock

What is your favourite book?

Anything ghost related Im there! Loved Stephan King the Shining

What is your most unappealing habit?

Guess  I am a moaner abit ??

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?

If I were nice and slim and maybe 20 yrs younger it would be Cinderella.

What is your earliest memory?

Sitting in a cot looking through asking for my mum. We were at a holiday camp and in those days children couldnt eat with the parents. I think i must have been around 2

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

I have a terrible sweet tooth and would eat cake till it comes out of my ears. I do love peanut butter eaten out of the jar with a spoon yum

What do you owe your parents?

My parents were kind and hard working. They raised me to treat people with respect and to be caring. I dont have my mums temper but I do have her little odd ways about food

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?

To my dad who I found hard to be with after mum died. I was so close to my mum it was hard to get to know him more once she was gone. I wish i had made for effort and i really feel guilty about that

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

I would have to say my husband kevin and also my children matthew and natalie

What does love feel like?

To feel cared for and safe no matter what you do

What was the best kiss of your life?

only been kissed by my husband so guess i better say him lol

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Drives me insane and "Hello can anyone hear me".

What is the worst job you’ve done?

Traffic warden !!!!!

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

When i lost lots of weight make sure i never put it all back on.

What is the closest you’ve come to death?

When matthew was about 2 we were driving back home on the motorway. I was sitting behind my hubbie with matthew on my lap asleep with his coat over him. A lorry in front of us went over a large object and threw it up in the air . It came through the window, through the car and out the back. I had a couple of cuts but no major problems. If i had been sitting on the other side or in the front i would have died for sure.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Getting my degree at 40 and my children.

When did you last cry, and why?

Earlier today didnt feel well with a long term illness that no one seems to know how to cure. The sense of sadness
can be overwhelming at times

How do you relax?

I do patchwork and my new hobby writing my blog

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

losing weight

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

enjoy people and say eveything you mean before its too late

Another thursday is here and over at Whitelily Green its handmade day again. I was going to chat about my quilts as you know I love my quilts. However, I picked some sweet little lavender bags I made. These can hang or go inside a drawer to keep bugs away, and they smell yum. Think its time for some card making so watch this space for next thursday. Have a super day in the sun!

Jollyjillys -Genie in a bottle!

Today I thought I would link up to Magpie Monday for the first time. So fingers crossed I do it right !
On Sunday we walked around a sort of bootsale! It was at an antique place but we could not afford to even look at the expensive stuff! Just outside was people selling lower priced items and also a man with a large box. It had a sign say free help yourself, so I made a rush for it.
In side was mostly junk but then I found this little bottle. It seems fairly old and I have no idea what it once contained but it was so sweet. It needs some cleaning but it will sit on my dresser with pride.

when we were young

Today its Flash back friday over at cafe bebe and I went with a not so distant flashback this week.
The photo is off my children Matthew and Natalie. Not sure when it was taken but they were in their late teens. Its so funny and they look so happy. I can't believe they are 30 and 25 this year! time has slipped past with a whisper and they are not little anymore. My mother used to say "enjoy them ! they are not babies long" when I was moaning about lost sleep or endless bottom changes. Oh how right her words were and how true now they have grown up. Im very lucky I am close to both of them and they are still very much part of my life. So if you are reading this Matthew and Natalie , you will always be my babies and mum loves you with all her heart.

Wedding Horseshoes for love

Over at White Lily Green its handmade Thursday, and my fingers have been busy this week. This is a picture of the wedding horseshoes I make. They are all made by hand and normal I try and put flowers on that match with bride's colours. They do make my fingers sore but I hope you think they are worth it!

Jollyjillys - Tomorrow

Today over at the Gallery Sticky Fingers we were given the theme " Tomorrow". For me there were a few things like would like, to be a size 12 again, or no lines on my face, or wish my parents were around.
However, the thing that really stuck was my children. It only seems like yesturday that they were tiny. I remember looking at my daughter Natalie and thinking oh dear this child will need me for years and years! Oh how time flys and how much joy have they brought to my life. For those who have small children enjoy them while you can. Drink in all those moments even if they are driving you insane. My son Matthew has grown into a wonderful, caring young man and my pride for him was mind blowing , when he married the lovely Karen last year.

When i think of tomorrow my daughter Natalie now takes up my thoughts. In september she is getting married to the great Robin. Natalie and I are very close, although at times she is a totally pain. I am so looking forward to seeing her walk into the church with her dad, I'm sure I will be a mess but happy.

So enjoy your children what ever there age and make your tomorrow special. Have lots of fun days and I hope they grow into wonderful adults like mine.
Tomorrow is a special day if you have great kids!

Auntie Mary and me

Over at Cafe Bebe it was flashback Friday. Sadly for me this is flashback Saturday as I was so busy on Friday I just plain forgot! The picture is of me when I was around 7 in Spain, the lady is my auntie Mary. As a child we spent a fair amount of time with my aunt and uncle Tom and always went on holiday to Spain with them. I would think my aunts dress would have been made my my mum, who did this as a job. Auntie Mary was always very glam and spent hours at the hairdresser having her hair teased into shape. She always managed to wake up in the morning with her hair in perfect form. Sadly she passed away many years ago but I never forgot the happy times I spent with her and Uncle Tom.

I love my cricut

Ive not had much to say for a few days, as I had some new toys to play with. I have a cricut machine with cuts all kinds of stuff in a huge range of sizes. I have had mine for about 3yrs and yes it was expensive but well worth it as it was a 50th birthday gift. As a scrapbooker/card maker it was always such a chore to try and cut out elements to use on your work. It was never right for me and I always felt that it made my hard work look bad.
On a Easter visit to a local craft shop 3yrs ago I can across a demo of the above said machine. I was amazed at what it could do. As I said I was lucky and got one for my birthday, and I really have to say it was the best craft item I have ever had.
It works by placing little cartridge  into the machine, pick you size you want and press a button and away it goes. I have the cricut expression which if you can afford it is the better size.
So to get back to my new toys, and that is 3 new cartridge's of all kinds of wonderful shape and cards to cut!
I needed a break from the Bridesmaid dresses so it was very nice to play.
By the way Im telling you about the cricut just for me, sadly much as it would have been nice cricut did not pay me lol
If anyone wants anymore info from my point of view just ask, it would be a pleasure!

Thursday 7 April 2011

Warm me up baby!

Its handmade thursday over at White lily green and once again the search to show you something I have made. My problem is I give away most of the things I make and do not always take pictures!!
Last year I deceided to make a heat bag as a christmas gift for my daughter in law, who had a sore neck. I wanted something fun, as the heat bags on the market were rather boring. I made one for Karen in a half round so it sat on her neck and in her favourite colours and with her name on.
Once a few people saw them I got asked to make more. This is one I did for a friend and I think the covers are far more interesting than shop ones!

Mummy and auntie

Today over at Sticky fingers the theme is Mother Love. My mum passed away 20yrs ago far too early from cancer. Even though its been so long I still miss her everyday. She was a proper Eastender but was smart and funny as well. Don't get me wrong she had a fierce temper and you knew not to miss with her. I adored her as a child and adult, and she would often say " Jill if you hang of my arm anymore I will look like a monkey"! I am sad she is not around to see my children grown up and to have been at my wonderful sons wedding to Karen last year. Also my beautiful daughter Natalie's wedding this year.
Also in the picture is my auntie Mary. As a child she was always around as we spent a great deal of time with her and uncle tom (who is also in the picture), she was my my mums sister in  law. I will always remember her perfect up hair styles and her music she played. Yet another victim of cancer!
Mum is with the dark hair, auntie Mary blond.

my little singing angel

I am totally proud of both my children, although these days they are not really children. Both of them acted and danced and my youngest Natalie went onto sing. She has not had the best of health over the years and sadly this meant that her singing career feel by the way side. Every time I hear her sing my heart breaks as she should so have a huge music career.
Ah well she is happy and getting married this year so not all is bad. I hope you enjoy a short you tube item so you can know what i mean.

Long ago wedding day

Over at Cafe bebe is another flashback friday.
This week I have been busy with a huge amount of planning
for my daughters wedding in september. It made me think about my own wedding day, some 32 yrs ago. I met my huband through letters, as he was my penpal. We wrote for a year and met in December 1978 and married by July 79. We are still together and happy but I sometimes wish I was that young bride again !
