Review of Knit one purlone

Review of Knit one-purl one today! If you read my last post re social media friendships, you will know I told you a little of  new friends called Emma and Sue. As I said they were so kind as to send me some of their products they make and some more information on them. I was so lucky to get a beautiful hand made headband, so I will be warm and ready for the winter. They have a couple of great styles and I can tell you mine is warm and well made. This is the kind of thing that I am taking about.

I also got a lovely set of face/wash cloths all tied up in tissue and pink ribbon. And a great mug warmer to keep my tea hot which is very important.

I was delighted with my things, they have a lovely colourful web site and customer service is excellent.
I asked Emma to tell me a little about her store and so I am now passing the blog over to her!

Knit one purl one is a knitting store selling a wide range of designer yarns, as well as knitting needles, patterns, books, buttons! Brands include Debbie Bliss, Louisa Harding, Noto, Woolcraft, Jarol, UKHKA, knit pro and lots more! We are the knitting store that saves you more!

We also have a handmade knitted section where you can treat yourself or a gift for somebody else and especially for those who have not started knitting yet you can see what you can make! Everything we sell under this section is knitted by hand, Sue does most of the knitting and she has over 30 years experience.
We sell cushions, head bands, cardigans, coasters ..... in fact all sorts!  All hand made orders are wrapped in delicate tissue with a silky ribbon tied in a bow, as well as a thank you card.

Knit one Purl one started only a few months ago when I (Emma) left my full time job and wanted to do something different, and definitely a challenge! Yarn is my passion, obsession and dream. during my school days I was always rubbish at the art subjects, when I discovered I could knit I was over the moon and have not stopped since- knitting is my artwork now! I sold many items and then I decided to combine my passion to my profession. I can't describe how wonderful it is that your hobby is your job!
Now I face the new exciting adventure that thrills me because this will open doors of my business to the world.

OMG I'm a parent!

OMG I'm a parent! I bet those among us that have children, have thought this and maybe more than once.
Its been a while since I was a first time parent. I remember that overwhelming feeling of responsibility. This tiny life to take care off and yes I admit boy was I scared.

No amount of books or classes can prepare you for the task ahead. Its worth it I think the first time your baby smiles or speaks, or just looks into your face. Its so amazing!
I was lucky to have my mother to ask for help. However, when my daughter was born my mother got really sick, so I did not want to worry her. It must be so hard if you don't have someone you can ask advice from.
I have had 31 years of being a parent, and there are so many events, good and bad. I've done the sleepless nights, toilet training, not eating and head lice!!! I've had school battles and also lots of fun. So I'm thinking I'll share!
I know times have changed but a baby is a baby, no matter the year they were born.
I think any advice I would give a new parent is , Relax and you will be fine. Babies are mostly tough and they will grown if you care and more importantly love them.
Its all too easy to feel cut off and lonely so parent classes are not only a way to learn more, a great way to meet new friends. In fact try and join a mother and babies club after the baby arrives. Talking to other mums can be a great stress reliever and often they will have had problems like you.
Its all too easy to feel cut off and lonely. Worse if you are used to working. I was lucky, I found an adult education college. They had a nursery so I could leave my son for a couple of hours and enjoy a class.
I think he enjoyed being with other kids, and I enjoyed using my brain!
Thankfully both mine grew into wonderful adults, so I think I did ok. So this is the start maybe next time, I will talk bout the sleepless nights, and how I finally got them to sleep!
Enjoy them before you know it they are grown and you wonder were all the time went!

When you have brought up kids,
there are memories you store directly in your tear ducts.

Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

3

I was lucky to be asked to review Extremely Loud  & Incredibly Close this week. Adapted from a book by Jonathan Safran Foer, it follows the story of Oskar Schell. A wonderfully bright, inventive eleven-year-old from New York.

Oskar discovers a key in the belongings of his father, who has died in the World Trade Centre on 9/11.
He sets out on an urgent search for the lock it opens. Osker travels all over New York meeting a huge mix of people along the way .Even a long lost grandfather. They in turn help him to uncover links to his father, who was his whole world.

This movie was sad at times and I admit I cried but it was also so touching and sweet. It brought home the terrible loss of life in 9/11. The message from the movie was so powerful and strong, and for me really made the whole 9/11 and its impact  come to life.
A wonderful cast with Tom Hanks , Sandra Bullock and the talented young actor in the role of Oskar, Thomas Horn, who I am sure we will be seeing much more of in the future. The whole cast were wonderful and I really could not fault any of the acting at all.

A beautiful movie set with the backdrop of New York. Although fairly sad at times, it also has a really lovely uplifting message running through the whole film. I think the whole family could enjoy it as although the subject is very serious, it also has such a lovely message.
I loved it and feel it could so be a classic movie of the future.
In  Blu -ray,  DVD. And  Ultra Violet digital copy, allows you to stream via Wi-fi and download to your computer and compatible Android, iphone, ipod touch and i pad devices.

What do I write?

What do I write? I don't think I am alone in this thought. I am sure many a blogger or writer has sat and done the same.
When I first started blogging I had little to no idea what I should say. I was always worried that I would make mistakes, and in the early days I would ask my niece Emma who has an excellent blog for advice.
Over time my son said I should pick one subject and write about that, the subject being my craft. I love to do patchwork and paper craft, so he thought that would be good for me.
However, it seemed more important for me to learn my craft so to speak, and just write. I wanted to get down onto my blog what ever seemed right  in my mind.
I hoped that in time and I got better and improved my writing and skill would also improve.
At times I have wonderful ideas and the words flow out and I am racing to write them down. At other times I am back to the "What do I write" again.

Also , and I wonder if anyone shares this. I feel guilty if I have nothing to say , like I am letting someone down! I always wish I could write more and come up with some wonderful idea or profound meaningful words!
So after a year I am still writing, I enjoy it mostly and I think some people enjoy reading about my family life even if its boring at times.
I think I have thinks to share still, I have brought up two children and been married for 33 years so I have a few hints, tips and so on I am always willing to pass on.
I may still have to stop to saying "what do I write now" and just let it flow and hope a piece of inspired writing arrives on the screen.

May the blogger force be with you!

Celebration .... 60 years in the making

Celebration .....60
years in the making is the fantastic event that we had over the weekend.
The weekend started wet and dull, but was it going to spoil peoples fun .... No.
I did feel sorry for those that camped out by the road, as it had been very cold during the night and damp. If you wanted the best view I think they thought it was worth it.
Over one million spectators were expected and I have no doubt that it was true. The weather was not a factor as it is something we are used to with outdoor events in Britain.
The scale of the celebrations has never been seen before, and someone I think we do so well.
The first event was the boat pageant with over 1,000 boats taking part, with all the boats having to be in place early and ready to go. I believe they were out on the water for around eight hours, in poor conditions.

This was the largest pageant since the 17th century  with people coming from all over Britain and the world.

The River Thames which gave life to London and was the stage for the days celebrations. The flotilla travelled along the route which was so big it would take at least three hours.
The Queen looked happy as she looked out, she was wearing a wonderful white coat and hat, and what impressed me is that she stood for the whole time.

She started her journey by being greeted by the wonderful Chelsea pensioners, looked so splendid in their red uniforms.

The other Royals also looked wonderful, for me I loved the Duch and Duchess of Cambridge( wills and Kate) as they seem to really enjoy the show

As the parade went on bells rang out all over the country. Wow is all I can say. The cheers the flags and the colour. The event finished at Tower Bridge where the bridge  was lifted in honour of the Queen and the Royal Philharmonic orchestra played and sang in the pouring rain.

Next saw the concert outside Buckingham Palace. What a fab line up and also funny. It was so great to watch  so many great acts  perform. It ended with a truly wonderful fire works display which was one of the best I have ever seen. Prince Charles also made a lovely speech about his mother which was very touching and sweet.

The weekend was topped off with a Church service at St. Paul's Cathedral and I really enjoyed watching all the invited guests arrive, and seeing what they were wearing. The Queen looked beautiful in a pale green coat and hat which had been made for the event. It was a little sad as Prince Philip was unwell in hospital so it must have been hard for her to carry on.

After the service later in the day we were treated once again to all the glory of the parade and then to finish off the crowds were allowed down to the gates of the Palace. What a sight as millions of people waving flags and cheering, a mass of colour and happy smiling faces.

I thought the whole weekend was wonderful and it really did make me so proud to be British.
Congratulation's to the Queen a wonderful celebration .. 60 years in the making.

Journey 2:The Mysterious Island

Journey 2:The Mysterious Island is the wonderful film I was asked to review.
What an adventure! An action packed full of fun and excitement movie, all in either Blu-rau 3D,Blu-ray, DVD and digital download, there is something for everyone.

Journey 2:The mysterious Island is the follow- up to Journey to the centre of the earth, but for me it was a stand alone film and not just a follow-up.
The story follows Sean Anderson a somewhat troubled teenager. He gets a distress signal from a mysterious island that no one believes in real.
Sean's step dad Hank decides to take him to find the island in order to try and bond, and their relationship its rough!
So the quest begins and when they reach the island and join forces with a father and daughter team, the adventure starts to unfold.
The movie was exciting from start to finish . Wonderful acting from the whole cast, including the granddad played by Michael caine. The 3D allowed the sense of really being in the action, and had me
jumping out of my chair  when giant eels or flying birds seemed to pop out of the T.V.
I really enjoyed every second and in fact watched it twice it was so much fun.
Think kids and even big kids like me will enjoy this fast, fun and laugh a myself silly film.
Get it today!

I was not paid for this review only receiving a copy of the movie.
